BICA (Bay Islands Conservation Association) Utila Experience Tour

The Bay Islands Conservation Association
presents the
BICA-Utila Experience Tour

This half-day tour provides boat-travel to the marine protected area, Turtle Harbour, along with our patrol guards; an opportunity to snorkel there and attempt to eradicate the invasive species, Red Lion Fish (P.volitans); and features a stop-over in the Cays for light refreshments on the return trip.

During this tour, you will be able to experience the natural beauty of the north side of the island, especially the shallow coral heads and mangrove-lined shore of Turtle Harbour, snorkel within Utila’s oldest protected area (preserved since 1992 by municipal decree) and accompany the BICA guards as they travel one of their routine patrol routes.
Depending on the circumstances, you may have the opportunity to participate in data collection and observe park ranger activities as they try to ensure proper use of this precious resource. Similarly, it is possible to observe unique fauna such as sea turtles or whale sharks, but no one can guarantee an encounter with specific wildlife.
Weather permitting; the BICA-Utila Experience Tour operates every Tuesday morning. Groups of up to four can be accommodated. We reserve the right to combine smaller groups.

A donation of 200 lempiras ($11 USD) per person is requested.
